The administration recently deployed the National Guard to our nation’s capital, claiming that violent crime in the city is out of control. ​But the facts? They tell a different story. A recent report by the Department of Justice shows that violent crime is down by 35%, putting DC’s violent crime rate at the lowest it's been in 30 years. This isn't about keeping people safe. It’s all a distraction. Political theater. Today it’s Washington, but tomorrow it could be your city, your neighborhood, your home.
STOP THE SPIKE
Healthcare premiums are expected to skyrocket due to the GOP-led blockade on extending the ACA tax credits.
Because Republicans refuse to extend these critical tax credits, an estimated 4.2 million more people will be uninsured over the next decade. Without affordable healthcare, preventative care will be delayed, parents will face impossible choices between medicine and rent, and more people will fall seriously ill - worsening the strain on our already broken healthcare system. We must urge our members of Congress to stop the spike, extend the ACA tax credits, and protect our health.
FOLLOW THE MONEY
Republicans allocated a staggering $45 billion to immigration detention, with most of it being funneled into private prisons, fueling an ever-growing immigration industrial complex. Inside these detention facilities, the conditions are nothing short of inhumane. Overcrowded cells, inadequate medical care, and spoiled food run rampant, creating an environment that endangers lives while corporations profit. Vital public services like Medicare and the National Weather Service are facing deep funding cuts, leaving everyday Americans without the resources they need - raising the critical question: “What can we do with that $45 billion instead?”
NOT CRIMINALS
While Trump and other Republican lawmakers claim that ICE is deporting criminals, about 71.1% of those detained have no criminal conviction and don’t even face criminal charges. ​Out of desperation, ICE is targeting anyone and everyone. ​ICE is raiding farms, meat-packing plants, and other critical industries in the American food supply to detain immigrants. Immigrants make up roughly 70% of farm workers, and their vital role is essential to our industries. Without them, food prices will skyrocket, shortages will worsen, and children and families will go hungry. Mass Deportations are not making us safer; they’re making it harder to feed America
