On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the House passed the Laken Riley Act, named after Ms Riley, who was killed by an undocumented immigrant. The proposed legislation would require federal authorities to detain undocumented immigrants who have committed nonviolent crimes and allow state attorneys general to sue the U.S. government over federal immigration policies.

The murder of Ms Riley is a grave tragedy that has been exploited to pass an anti-immigrant and unconstitutional bill that does nothing for public safety.
