Fred Thompson Attacked on Immigration

Yesterday the anti-immigration Washington Times headline was Thompson Soft on Illegals in Senate Votes.

Anti-immigration groups are attacking Former Senator Fred Thompson for his record on immigration - while a Senator he received a C from the anti-immigration group NumbersUSA.

In his campaign's YouTube ad on the issue, here is how Thompson closes:

We should scrap this Comprehensive Immigration Bill & the whole debate until the government can show the people that we have secured the border... then we'd give proponents of the bill a chance to explain why putting illegals in a more favorable position than those who play by the rules is not really amnesty. 

Despite what doesn't sound like a strong pro-immigration reform stance, CBN reports that Thompson will be attacked on the issue.  

It seems as though the direction we are headed where no pragmatic approach will be accepted by the anti-immigration minority.  With a poll showing that 20% of people thought that Sensenbrenner's bill last Congress was amnesty, that certainly seems to be the case.
