America was indebted to immigration for her settlement and prosperity. That part of America which had encouraged them most had advanced most rapidly in population, agriculture and the arts.

Immigrants’ List unveils 2010 House scorecard
Pro-immigrant PAC finds nearly 35 percent of representatives support
comprehensive immigration reform; more than 25 percent oppose meaningful reform

(Washington) — Immigrants’ List, a bipartisan political action committee dedicated to electing members of Congress who support common-sense immigration reform, today released its 2010 Immigration Scorecard, which rates House members based on their support for comprehensive immigration reform measures.

According to the scorecard, nearly 35 percent of House members (151 representatives) support fair and meaningful reform, while more than 25 percent (112 members) are against reform. Almost 39 percent (170 members) received an inconclusive rating. Two House seats are vacant. The full scorecard is available at http://www.immigrantslist.org/scorecard.

“Voters and constituents deserve to know where members of Congress stand on this important issue, and they will soon have the opportunity to hold these representatives accountable for their actions — or lack thereof,” said Amy Novick, executive director of Immigrants’ List.

Ratings were based on legislators’ positions on a selection of bills that would affect, both positively and negatively, the immigrant community, including the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005 (H.R. 4437); the Secure Fence Act of 2006 (H.R. 6061); the Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement Act of 2009 (H.R. 3308); the Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits, and Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 2414); the American Dream Act (H.R. 1751); and the Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy Act of 2007 (H.R. 1645).

In the coming weeks, Immigrants’ List plans to release a corresponding Senate scorecard. The organization recently announced its endorsement of 10 House incumbents and challengers for the 2010 election cycle: Rep. Joseph Cao (LA-02), Rep. Gerry Connolly (VA-11), Raj Goyle (KS-04), Bill Hedrick (CA-44), Rep. Jim Himes (CT-04), Rep. Betsy Markey (CO-04), Rep. Scott Murphy (NY-20), Rep. Tom Perriello (VA-05), Rep. Harry Teague (NM-02), and Rep. Dina Titus (NV-03). Rep. Mike Quigley (IL-05) and Rep. Eric Massa (NY-29) received the group’s endorsement earlier in the cycle.

Immigrants’ List is the first and only bipartisan PAC dedicated to electing members of Congress who support fair and meaningful immigration reform and to defeating those who use fear and misinformation to promote an anti-immigrant agenda.
